They’re gonna try their damndest to stop this Linux and MacOS exodus.

I hope they fail for a long time. I don’t want windows to go away, less competition is bad, but I REALLY don’t want people crawling back already before microslop has actually learned a damn thing.

I still think it is wild that if you told someone 10 years ago that MacOS market share would skyrocket and that Apple started to make fairly conpetitively priced computers with their own chips to where it is a legit alternative to a typical laptop shopper, you would have been called crazy.

I’m sure many hate Apple in Lemmy side, I myself use SailfishOS and Linux, but you have to agree that to your normal person, Apple is a very conpetitive option for laptops nowadays which was previously not the case.

Right?!? It’s like we’re in the upside down or something at this point.

I’ve been watching the steam hardware survey very closely this year.

I run Fedora KDE but my wife needed a good laptop for work this year. Mac Neo was a no brainer, we got it for the initial $600 and it’s a fantastic piece of tech, actually unbelievable how much value is there.

They’re going to cut the bloat a little to get people who are windows 10 holdouts to move…

Then they’ll slowly put it back in …

Remember when windows XP could only make use of a maximum of 4GB of RAM?

I put it to you: What has actually improved in the OS for the end user since then?

For what most people use their computer for Win95 was already good enough. Microsoft has just been charging for the same old shit since then.

That wasn’t a windows thing only. That was a limit of 32bit machines. They could only address up to 4gb of ram. But there was a thing called Physical Address Extension that kinda faked it being able to address more than 4gb.

8gb of RAM? My phone has 8 gb and can play ZZZ while playing music and chatting on Discord. Windows can’t even tell me the weather, Edge won’t even open, the screen resolution changed sometimes (mid session) and there’s Coslop in the damn text editor. RAM was never the issue, it’s the whole OS.

Again… “Look at this performance improvement we really should’ve always had, also what tracking ID?”
