Nuclear tests were conducted on and around Kiritimati by the United Kingdom in the late 1950s, and by the United States in 1962. During these tests, the island was not evacuated, exposing the Kiribati residents and the British, New Zealand, and Fijian servicemen to nuclear radiation

Even the people who lived in Paris gave up. It’s abandoned.
You can’t make this shit up
Paris had a coconut plantation in the 1920s, which is now abandoned. French priest Emmanuel Rougier lived in a clapboard house in Paris, which has since been destroyed. Paris was mostly abandoned due to limited accessibility. It is believed that Paris was once home to roughly 20 people.
They did try though
Paris was named by French priest Emmanuel Rougier who lived there while running a coconut plantation.[3][4] He named the town Paris due to the fact that he was homesick.[5][6]

No one introduce this person to Texas.
It will all be under water in a few decades anyway.
What Australia is doing to Tuvalu for example is also completely unforgivable. Holding a country in a precarious situation hostage is not the lesson we should have learned after China expanded its influence in the pacific
What is the problem you see with Australia / Tuvalu relations?
https://www.dfat.gov.au/geo/tuvalu/australia-tuvalu-falepili-union-treaty
Tuvalu is now obliged to let Australia oversee its foreign policy. In exchange, Australia is “generously” allowing a number of Tuvaluans per year to flee climate disaster and settle in Australia. The climate disaster that Australia as a coal giant has no interest in stopping, or better yet, compensate the island nations for instead of slowly absorbing their governments and populations
You realise that number will gradually increase and everyone will have a pathway to Australian citizenship?
Australia is a contributor to global warming but pretending a nation with the tiny population Australia has could turn the tide isn’t going to help anyone.
And nothing ever comes free in geopolitics.
So you’re conveniently ignoring the protectorate status? And the fact that Tuvalu doesn’t really have another choice? And that this is just one in a long line of “anti-China deals” Australia is forcing on its island neighbors?
If it’s the best option Tuvalu has it makes sense to make the deal, if there was a better deal they’d have made it.
Did you expect a free handout?
Tuvalu could have made a deal with China. Maybe you should ask why they saw Australia as the better option.
