Today’s game is some more Control. I was playing around with Aspect Ratios trying to see if I could get some interesting ones to work with in Photo mode. Unfortunately the highest 4:3 the game supports is 1600x1200 I could use gamescope to jump up to 8K 4:3, but that was lagging my game even if I dropped the resolution majorly. I decided to just have my fun with 1600x1200 and then stick to 16:9.

I also figured out how to get a good balance of Resolution w/ Raytracing. I capped it at 30 FPS. But a stable 30 FPS is more than tolerable for me, so I’m more than happy sticking to that.

My first thought was “Damn, these are some amazing Reflections”. My second thought was “Damn, somethings are a little fuzzy”. Still, not too bad as far as I’m concerned, especially getting to see those amazing reflections on windows and stuff. It brings it really high up in quality.

The Physics simulation is pretty too with all the shattering glass. I spent a little while trying to get a good shot with the glass and I got this one which I rather like.

Anyways, enough about graphics. Let’s talk about Ahti. I love the guy. Genuinely he might be one of my favorite characters to come out of a Remedy game. Something about this Janitor with an air of mystery and power is just so fucking cool. Plus his role in Alan Wake 2 is even cooler. I just hope he doesn’t get too tied up in everything to the point it starts being like marvel movies where you need to watch another franchise to understand the other. Granted, for that I think we’d need like a “Ahti the Video Game” or something like that, so maybe I shouldn’t be too worried.

I made it to the research department and got sidetracked playing with the camera mode before my time for the day was up. I’m hooked on playing this again so I’ll definitely be playing some more tomorrow because I missed this game.

Like everyone else has said, Control is a fantastic game all around, but I have yet to see anyone else in this thread mention the absolute banger of a soundtrack it has

Damn. I actually had a screenshot saved that I was going to use to talk about Poets of The Fall and their work in the game, and then use that to lead into talking about the OST but forget it

Martin Stig Andersen. Same guy that made the Limbo soundtrack, except his ambience here seems more polished for a modern era game. Stranger soundscapes than Limbo, which fits the mood. Petri’s stuff is pretty good, too, but it’s a different kind of creepy ambience and he’s not afraid to put more energy behind it for the fight scenes.

I have this in my Halloween playlist to weird out the trick-or-treaters.

I’ve played through this game probably 4 times by now, absolutely love it. I really hope the sequel manages to capture the atmosphere of the first.

I’m not sure if it was intentional or not by the developers but it’s a lovely sight nonetheless. I suppose intent doesn’t matter though as art is what you make of it

I tried it and refunded because of the shooting. I hate aiming. I haven’t tried the aim assist though. Anyone knows if the aim assist is good? I just wanna play it like action game, not a 3rd person shooter.

I love that the sequel took aiming out altogether. Such an intrusive idea on an otherwise good action game with a lot of potential.

Wow, apparently aim assist and aim snap are broken in this game, nevermind then.

Control is a great game! great physics, great storyline and beautiful. I tried it a couple years ago but my laptop couldn’t handle it but since I got a new gaming desktop last year, I’m clearing my backlog of things I wanted but couldn’t play before. Still need to play both Alan Wake 1 and 2, though…

One of the few games where I read every single bit of lore collectibles and easter eggs I could find. I absolutely loved the world and environment they built in that game.

Yes, control such a good game. I really enjoyed the visuals and storytelling. I didn’t finish the game, but I did enjoy playing it when I did.

Every time I start playing the game again I try to max out my settings… It never works lol.

I straight up can’t use ray tracing in the intro walk up to the offices, I think because the lobby granite fucks with it so bad on my system for some reason

It’s a beautiful game and I have always loved the idea of objects of power since watching The Lost Room as a kid

One day I’d love to Raytrace this and Alan Wake 2 on Max Settings and (preferably) without any FSR or TAA. It’s a dream come true. Computer Processing power probably isn’t there quite yet but maybe one day

I love Remedy games, but Alan Wake 2 makes me think they’re not that into performance and optimization. Control mostly did okay in this regard probably thanks to being developed before such a heavy reliance on upscaling and ray tracing.

I think we have reasons to suspect that Control Resonant is going to both be a fantastic action game with some great worldbuilding, and run pretty terribly.

Stuff like this makes me think that upgrading my GPU is actually not as daunting, because how powerful the upgrade will be is going to be heavily negated by some games’ architecture.

Such a great game. The DLC added some nice extra as well. Ahti is the man, and has great taste in music.

I really hope he makes it into the sequel, and that is looking amazing.

Ahti legit is probably one of my favorite Remedy Characters next to Alan Wake and Max Payne. Jesse is up there too but Ahti wedges her out of the 3rd place spot with just how charming he is

They really killed it both with Rasterization and RT implementation. I know i was touting RT here but my very first playthrough was all raster and it was all really gorgeous too. My only complaint is some surfaces were really grainy weirdly enough. I saw some people saying it’s because the game was designed with RT in mind but I’m not sure

Nice game, too difficult for me.

I’ve been stuck in a large room where this dude comes in through the window and proceeds to kick the living shit out of me.

    There is no easier setting.

If you’re talking about who I think. Yeah, that dude killed me a lot. And was just annoying.

The best (though slightly tedious) strategy I have is to go up to the balcony and stand with a pillar in between you and him. His attacks won’t break the pillar and you can then time it right to leave cover and shoot him several times before going back to hiding.

Also going to a place with lots of enemies to level up/craft mods is helpful, and do the janitor’s quests and explore as much as possible to gain more abilities / find more crafting materials.

Fighting is a lot easier when you can basically throw the entire room at an enemy over and over again.

My thoughts on Control are entirely summed up by the limerick at the end of Yahtzee’s review:

      Control is intriguing enough,
      With its mysterious, inscrutable stuff,
      But the combat is cloying,
      And about as annoying,
As a limerick that doesn’t end properly.

A while ago the developers have added an accessibility option called “Assist mode”, which lets you tweak some combat related options like increased damage output and health. You can configure it to essentially achieve god-mode.

I’m joking, please don’t be upset.

I haven’t finished the game yet. I need to get back to it. Mental health has been a bitch the last few years and that was probably when it was at it’s worst. I need to restart it at this point. It’s an amazing game.

        I wish.

I come from the time when we loaded the games from audio tapes, each game taking 5 minutes to load. We had to get good, there was no internet to guide us.

Games were intentionally hard, so you could get value out of those 48KB.

Nowadays there is no reason to hold back older/disadvantaged players, it’s just wrong. Let us adjust the difficulty and enjoy the story.

    Looks sick!

My setup might just be able to handle it, I think.
But on the other hand, my backlog is full and I even have the first Alan Wake still left to play :-)
