As someone who had two ThinkServer bios updates kill the board when instructions were followed to the letter (not my first rodeo), including being plugged into a ups during the process - it was so bad that they were not even savable with the recovery flash procedure - as well as three separate ThinkPad units across 3 different product families that have issues…

    • battery longevity of less than an hour [vs advertised 12] after just a month, even after a replacement was installed; this machine sees extremely light use as a diagnostic and troubleshoot unit
    • overheating issues from a non-existent fan curve; known issue of over 1y when I purchased, still no eta on fix when returned
    • a custom build shipping out without a license key for W11 Pro, refusal to refund license cost or to supply a key; returned

…run awaaaaaay. They’d have to literally give me the unit, with the extra 5 year warranty added on, for me to evaluate if I should accept it as a gift. Absolutely no way whatsoever would I trust their products again with my money.

Interesting, we have 400 Lenovo ThinkPads and little PCs at my workplace. A lot of them getting on in years with little to no issues. Main problem is user damage but even then they keep on chugging.

I take it all back. I attempted to firmware update a TPM today and the process borked it. Good thing it is still under warranty.

It was a BIOS update on their own website encouraging you to update.

Fuck that. I hope they get sued to hell and back and have to fix all these peoples machines for free.
