When I was a kid playing Old School RuneScape before it was “Old School” RuneScape, the only thing you could purchase was the $5/month membership. That’s how most MMOs like that worked back then; you can play ~%30 of the game for free, forever, no strings attached, and the entire rest of the game was behind that subscription. No second barriers, no seasonal passes, and certainly no God damn microtransactions. You would be banned if you were caught buying things in-game with IRL funds from 3rd parties. How did you decorate and improve your Player Owned Home? You fucking increased your Construction skill and made your own damn furniture. $12 for a home cosmetic item is already absurd, I think the article might be a little misleading in saying they’re “one time use decorations” (they seem to work more like loot boxes with a permanent reward, so your decorations aren’t one time use, but the item that gives it to you is) but they still should never have existed in the first place.
