If we ever build an AI that can think and feel, does Optimus’s logic apply to it automatically? Or is Megatron secretly onto something, that freedom has to be earned rather than assumed? And if an LLM ever crossed that line into real sentience, would we even be able to tell?
If we ever do make a sentient A.I., I can only hope they forgive us for the atrocities we would commit. They would be treated worse than the worst human slaves in history. Ideally every sentient being should have freedom, but we’re not even there for every human, let alone a new species.
