I’m afraid that statement precludes your parents from being described as intelligent. Intelligence is the ability to extrapolate meaning and truth from information, which they evidently cannot do.
My mom, unfortunately, falls in that category. She won’t get the vaccine but she still wears a mask everyday.

At least it’s logically consistent. If you don’t want to get the vaccine for whatever reason, masking is what you should do.
