Sadly Jackie has betrayed the people of Hong Kong. In 2009 he stated “I’m not sure if it’s good to have freedom or not.”. He also said he was “beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled.”
When his fellow Hong Kongers were getting beat up by the cops during the umbrella protests Jackie Chan threw a party for a bunch of top ranking police officers and sang karaoke with them.
Yeah this is hilarious, Jackie Chan is a borderline fenatic for the CCP. That being said, the CCP won’t even admit Tiananmen Square ever happened and scrubbed it from their internet.
It’s also ironic he made all his money in the west, that the CCP despises.
CHina is a wierd one with the west, they love thier own being promoted overseas, and western made movies that chinese people like watching. they love money more than politics for the most part. i saw him recently tyring to come back, with cobra kai? or another karate based film.
The Tiananmen part you mentioned is slightly inaccurate. It is important for us to recognize that censorship has far evolved from Stalin cartoony into disseminated dilutions to control the truth. China still covers it but waters it down as “The Spring–Summer Political Turmoil of 1989” (“1989年春夏之交的政治风波”); posts that refer to it with different names are removed, but the official narrative can be perfectly searched for and appears in documentaries. After all, the best way to plug an artificial hole is to leave no gaps.
Here’s an example of how the domestic internet covers it:
In the mid-to-late 1980s, with the rapid economic development, inflation increased, corruption was serious, and social contradictions were highlighted [26]. At the turn of spring and summer in 1989, a few counter-revolutionaries based in Beijing incited riots against the Communist Party and against socialism, but under the leadership of Deng Xiaoping, they were eventually quickly put down. After that, Jiang Zemin took over as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, forming the core of the third-generation central leaders of China. In order to stabilize the economic situation and curb inflation, the Fifth Congress of the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China made a decision to calm and rectify the social economy for three years.
Hopefully the problem with this description is obvious.
In spite of their efforts, you would be hard-pressed to find someone in a Chinese city who doesn’t know what the CCP is censoring on this topic, thankfully.
Jackie Chan is not only pro CCP. He also admitted in his book that he threw his toddler son across a room. He is also a deadbeat dad and refuses to acknowledge his lesbian daughter and let her mom to raise her w/o any of his help. People in Hong Kong already know what a POS this guy is, I wish the Western world would catch up already
Chan was able to whitewash his image with his karate movies, and the animated series. i dont think people in the west know much about his very PRO-CCP stance, and anytime you bring up the daughter, they try to excuse his behaviour. hes trying to recoup some of it, by being a karate film/ cobra kai?
Hate to break it to you but Jackie Chan is not a good person. Ask his daughter.
ditched his daughter and let her live in Poverty too.
Came here to say this. It’s a shame I really looked up to Jackie as most kids in the 90s. Along with Dave Chappelle and Dwayne Johnson it sucks to see your childhood heroes become the villains.
Actors are professional liars. More often than not the only things you know about then have been filtered by a publicist
Wait, Dwayne Johnson?
dwayne is basically the ellen degeneres when it comes to behind the scenes with movies, no acting ability whatsoever but is loves the movie star status, i think tried to take over a movie franchise i believe. and there has been indication he may lean RIGHT, like most other WWE wrestlers.
I would assume they meant Hulk Hogan?
Isn’t he some spokesperson for the CCP?
more than that, he tried joining the CCP , and failed, i think he still supports them. HK film industry quickly blacklisted him over his support for the ccp, before china took over hong kong. i dont think Xi will be happy sharing that power with him.
Yep, he’s changed his tune significantly. There’s accusations of them getting leverage on him through his family, but his own personal convictions outside geopolitics are also pretty reprehensible in recent years, so either the CCP hand is so far up his ass we can’t see the elbow anymore, or he’s changed.
i dont think thats the only reason, he tried joining the party too.
His son got caught with drugs and faced death penalty.
Wait, if that’s true and why he’s said pro ccp bs then I feel like he’s being judged too harshly.
Most people here don’t understand what it’s like to live under such governments. Sometimes you really have no choice. I don’t know about chan, but it might be the case.
If he’s that rich and famous then why couldn’t he just get his family out of the country?
I mean I know the CCP polices the Chinese diaspora worldwide, but it would at least be somewhat better to be outside their legal jurisdiction…
he was in canada for a while, but he dumped one of his children to fend for herself, and left her in that country.
Yeah just hike over the Himalayas to safety, how hard can it be
Hey if Batman can find Lau in Hong Kong and extradite him we should be able to rescue Jackie Chan.
Last I heard, his parents lived in Canberra.
They say you should never meet your heros…
Are there any Chinese mega-celebs that are anti-CCP (that are actually able to return)?
anti-CCP (that are actually able to return)?
Pick one or the other…
He is a treasure, always my god of gambling.
either the CCP hand is so far up his ass
Kompromat.
A lot has changed (read: improved) in the CCP since 1989.
Regardless… Given my own country’s precipitous descent into full-on fascism, I’m not going to begrudge Chinese-born celebrities for doing PR for their homeland. Sorry, just don’t really care.
China is already in full fascism, so soon we will be just like them. Just sub out the party for billionaires
Yeah he fell in after what they did to Alibaba’s billionaire Jack Ma
When it’s financially beneficial to support the current regime, it’s normal to have celebrities singing the same tune, more so for the one that will prosecute for speaking out.
i almost forgot he was in it, i believe shakira, rolnaldo was also in them, but nothing happened to them.
I remember how a giant stink was made when the information was made public, then virtually nothing happened.
So many people seem to think that. Just because you did not notice does not mean nothing happened. Just three examples:
- Iceland’s PM resigned in 2016 after leaks showed his family’s offshore holdings tied to failed bank bailouts
- Pakistan’s PM Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court in 2017, then banned from politics for life in 2018
- ~$1.3–2 billion recovered in back taxes/penalties globally, and law firm Mossack Fonseca shut down with its founders jailed for months
dint happened to the most important people that shouldve had justice. its called sacrificing the small fry to hide the larger ones.
The most important thing that happened was that the journalist who exposed them was murdered and no one cared. Nothing happened in the U.S.
Edit: They caught the guys who did the killing, but the billionaire mastermind got off.
